We at Woodmill Farm are trying to do our bit to help sustain our environment and thus protect it for future generations. We have joined Coast, which is a project that helps tourism businesses in Cornwall to offer a more sustainable break. If we all do a little it will go a long way!
All our cottages have efficient, instant heat, combi-boilers, radiators fitted with thermostats, double-glazing and low flush cisterns. We
use environmentally friendly cleaning products, and low energy lighting has been installed wherever possible. We ask our guests to help us by recycling newspapers, magazines, glass, cans, plastic bottles and cardboard, using the bins provided.
Water butts harvest rainwater for use in the gardens.
When purchasing we try to buy local. This helps our Cornish economy and it reduces our “footprint” — two for the price of one!We also live on the edge of the historic Prideaux Wood, which is filled with unusual species and mammals, protected by Cornwall Wildlife Trust (link) and English Heritage. We leave our hedgerows as natural as possible to encourage wildlife.
We provide a cycle and boot store to encourage people to arrive by alternative modes of transport and train/bus/ferry timetables are available in the cottages.
By Staying Local, Eating Local, Buying Local, Seeing Local, we help the local economy. Cornwall has a growing reputation for good food and excellent restaurants close by bolster this.
The countryside code reminds us all to protect, respect and enjoy: look after plants and animals, take litter away, leave gates and property as you found them, and consider other people and users when in the countryside. We may never be able to be completely sustainable, but we would like to go as far as we can along our journey. As a family, we produce our own soft fruits and veg; we don’t produce enough yet to sell, but we would like to. We think if we all help a little and be responsible in our actions, Cornwall will be preserved for years to come.
